The House Of Rothschild 1934, Excellent historical and romantic drama about the prominent Rothschild family. Ater the Napoleonic Wars the house of Rothschild attained increasing power, and in 1822 all five brothers were created barons by Emperor Francis I of Austria. The first important member of the Rothschild's, was Mayer Amschel Rothschild (1743-1812), son of a money changer in the Jewish ghetto of Frankfurt, Germany. Although the English Rothschilds are still one of the country's important financial dynasties, the French goverment nationalized the bank owned by the French branch of the family in 1981 and the family has only a minor presence in the United States. Mr. George Arliss, a great actor and star in many early films gives an outstanding performance as he plays duel roles in this great epic as the father Mayer Rothschild and also as the son Nathan Rothschild. The romantic role between the two Youngs, Loretta Young & Robert Young as Julia Rothschild and Captain Fitzroy is a stand out during the grand ball when in the last few minutes of the movie it changes from black and white to the restored colorized version in early technicolor. The evil villainous role of the anti-Semetic Prussian nobleman, Count Ledrantz is played impressively by Boris Karloff of "Frankenstein" fame..This movie was directed by Alfred L. Werker and was also an academy award nominated movie for: Best Picture...A wonderful historical and romantic movie. This DOES have the restored COLOR sequence version during the grand ball when in the last few minutes of the movie it changes from black and white to the restored colorized version in early technicolor.

The idea of this film was to create a project for Diana Ross where she would not have to sing a single note in it like she did in "Lady Sings The Blues", and the focus would be on her acting skills.
Diana did, however, sing the theme song ("Do You Know Where You're Going To") for the movie. With Motown CEO Berry Gordy, Jr. in the director's chair (the original director, Tony Richardson, quit after Gordy's constant meddling), Ross portrays Tracy, a secretary/aspiring fashion student who has dreams of making it big and getting out of the Chicago ghetto where she lives.
She is very convincing as well...very diva-ish and overdramatic.
Anthony Perkins' role as the deranged Sean (aka Norman Bates turned a jealous and possessive high-fashion photographer) is clearly the best role in the entire film. He helps Tracy get in the business as a model, but only sees her as a product and doesn't want to nurture her need to be independent or her true desire to be a designer.
This is where these two constantly bump heads throughout the film.
Perkins steals this film and was predictably humorous but also very creepy, especially when he has a confrontation with Billy Dee Williams at a party and reveals himself to be totally psychotic.

Set on a mysterious Greek island somewhere in the Aegean, "Blood Tide" opens with a bizarre ritual. A young girl with a Greek letter painted on her forehead drifts into an alcove, also marked with the same Greek letter, where a hideous creature lies in wait. Flash forward a thousand or so years to the present day as Neil (Martin Kove) and his pretty wife Sherry (Mary-Louise Weller) arrive at the same Greek island in search of Neil's missing sister Madeleine (Deborah Shelton). The isle seems abandoned at first, oddly enough, but it isn't too long before our two victims...er, I mean main characters run into a cranky old salt named Frye (James Earl Jones) and his vivacious blonde girlfriend Barbara (Lydia Cornell). Then we meet the locals, a cantankerous bunch of kooks led by the sullen Nereus (Jose Ferrer). These are weird people with weird customs, and they quickly claim they don't have a clue about anything that goes on around the island. Obviously they are hiding something.
